Meet John

When John moved to Wilson Commencement Park in January of 2019, he was a single parent of a preteen son. John was determined to prove to his son that he had changed and that his son could count on him. The path to becoming a successful father did not come easy for John. After seven years of battling drug addiction and three years of recovery, John still faced struggles that slowed down his progress towards self-sufficiency. Four months before moving into Wilson Commencement Park, John’s son lost his mother making him an overnight single father. “Every day I wake up with thoughts of using, but I know where that leads, and I am the only one my son has.”

At Wilson Commencement Park, John is taking his next steps forward. Along with planning his educational and professional paths, John is excited about his journey as a father. In a short time, he has become a fiercely dedicated father for his son who is now quick to brag about him.

John continues to attend all his recovery programs and is enrolled in a GED class. He also has secured employment in construction where he worked before drugs entered his life. Additionally John is working towards becoming a mentor to the youth in his community and is seeking out volunteer opportunities.

“Wilson Commencement Park is a place where opportunities are available to you, and not a moment goes by that I don’t appreciate it! I owe this to my son and much more.”
